Learning how to tell the stories of your design work

For design consultancies, technical expertise alone isn’t always enough. Being able to tell clear, compelling stories about what it’s like to work with you is what sets you apart and wins bids.

The brief

TTW Engineering Consultancy partnered with us on storytelling training to strengthen the way they communicate their approach. As a large engineering consultancy, their people are regularly producing bids, reports, presentations and other client collateral.

Our approach

We began by reviewing their written work — bids and design reports — and creating an assessment rubric aligned to their development framework. This analysis identified the current state, and areas for consistency and uplift.

The training component took place over two half-day sessions. TTW senior leaders explored storytelling techniques and undertook detailed audience analysis, sharpening their understanding of the information needs of different clients.

Practice and feedback was embedded, to help participants immediately apply better storytelling to their own work. By the end of the program, TTW had real-life case studies they could use immediately in bids and on their website.

The results

Stronger, more compelling stories that connect with clients, and a leadership team equipped with consistent writing skills to better describe and bring their design work to life.
